Modern stools can be found in many styles that will properly accent your décor. There are varying colors, and if you go with wood stools, there are various stains and textures. Stools can be quite versatile, and they will give you a unique look in any room. Use the right finish of wood to properly accent the counter where you will be using them, and the decor in the rest of the room.

Wood stools are among the favorites, in both homes and local bars. Even the backless styles are usually comfortable to use, since they are right next to a counter that is perfect for leaning on, while you watch the game or share a drink. Curves in the seats can make stools more ergonomically friendly, and they can be used in different environments.

Stools that are constructed from wood are durable and sturdy, and their soft textures and finish will help to warm up the room in which you use them. You can show a contrast between parts of the room that are less contemporary, against the modern counter stools you are placing in the room. But most people tend to carry the modern look throughout the entire room.

Stools with backs will be especially comfortable for people who are unaccustomed to sitting on any type of stool. Even a partial back will give the stool a different kind of look, and a bit more support. Often times, the back on a stool is meant more as a style statement than support for your back, but you can select full backed stools if you want to give friends and family that extra support. Modern “takes” on older styles of stools are popular in contemporary homes today. Older woods can show off a distressed look similar to the patina of older metals, even though the styles may be modern in appeal. Most wood stools are easily cleaned, which makes them durable as well as practical. Different colors or finishes of wood can be used for contrast, or you can select stools that all have the same finish.

 

Leather or other materials used on the seat cushions will make stools more comfortable to sit in for extended periods of time, whether you use then at a bar or counter. Select a material for the cushion covering that is also easy to keep clean, so you won't have to be wiping them down all the time. Some modern counter stools have fabric or upholstery on the seats, and although they may require more care, they are very classy and stylish.
