Will you be watching mainly TV shows in your bedroom, or DVD's and Blu-Ray's? If you like watching movies, you'll need a place to store all the discs you have in your collection. The size of your room will play a part in your decision of which chest to buy, as will the number of discs that you will want to store there.

Plan the various possible placements for the furnishings you will be buying, including your media center as well as wardrobe, bed, dresser and other pieces. Make sure that you have measured the room correctly. Be sure that there is a cable jack and power outlet with surge protector in place. Keep this information with you, as you shop.

Remember that your TV picture won't be as clear or as easily seen if there is light from another source reflecting from the screen. Be sure that none of your room lights reflect off the screen of your TV.

Determine what other types of connections you may need, when you install your TV media chest for bedroom use. Do you want surround sound? What types of media will you primarily be watching? This will determine whether you need additional outlets for your media center.

The Internet is an excellent place to gather more information about the types of media centers that are currently available. Compare media chests to find the best prices on the size you're looking for. Check consumer ratings and reviews, to learn the units with the best records.

When you have narrowed down your bedroom TV center choices to just a few, keep in mind that some things can be added later, and some can't. Be sure that all of your choices will fit not only the TV you use now, but any bigger-screened TV's, if they are likely to be purchased in the immediate future.

You'll want your media center to be properly in balance with your TV, too. If your TV is larger, even if it still fits, it can look unbalanced. Listen to the acoustics in your bedroom, and determine the best place to put speakers. Your research will put you miles ahead in terms of making a final decision.

Once you have your choices narrowed down, check the wood or other type of finish, if you haven't already done so, to make sure that the color and texture fit in well with the other furnishings in your bedroom. You don't want a giant furnishing that doesn't even look like it belongs in your room, especially if all you need is a smaller console and a bit of storage. Buy the TV media chest for bedroom that will work the best in your room, with the other furnishings that you already have, or are planning to buy.
