Night stands are an important part of your bedroom plan. When you're lying in bed, watching TV or reading from your e-reader, and you're ready to nod off to sleep, you won't want to get up to turn the TV or light off. It's much easier if you have a night stand next to your bed, so that you can use the TV remote and the table lamp, when you're ready for sleep. 

Night stands sometimes seem like an afterthought in a bedroom, but you'll miss them if you don't include them in your layout. Whether you select a smaller table-type stand, with just a drawer, or a more ornate night stand, with a magazine rack, or more than one drawer, you'll be glad you have selected them as a part of your bedroom furnishings.

If you select inexpensive night stands that have one or more drawers, these become a handy place for your glasses, cell phone and charger, or TV remote. These are not just decorations – they serve a purpose in the room. You can keep all kinds of personal items in your night stand drawers, if you want them handy at your bedside, when you need them.

If you have space on the top of your night stand, you can place a CD player there, in case you'd like to listen to music as you fall asleep. The drawer could then be used for your favorite peaceful music CD's, that will help ease you into sleep after a work day. If you have a small CD player with speakers, the speakers will fit on your night stand, as well. You can even place one speaker on either night stand, if you like, for a stereo sound and better quality.

Don't assume that there will only be a couple styles of night stands that go well with the bed you have selected for your room. There are many sizes, colors and styles of night stands, and you may even find it difficult to make a choice. Select for color and style but also for function. If you need extra drawer space that your dresser doesn't have, consider night stands with extra drawers, where you can put personal items that won't fit in your dresser, due to lack of space.

The night stands you choose to include in your room should match well the bed and other furnishings you have included. They can also be stylish in their own way, even though they are small in size. These furnishings can add functional space to your bedroom, and this is always welcome in any room.
