Childrens Chests

The woods used in crafting chests of drawers will play a main role in the color they will show, and how well they will blend with other furniture. Children are not as picky about how well their furnishings match, so you may be a little more liberal in your selection.

Chests come in various colors of wood, and painted colors, as well. Pastels and light colors are popular with young girls, and boys typically like the darker woods better. You can mix dark and light woods in a children’s room, and some chests for girls’ rooms have whimsical doll house themes.  

Once you and your children decide on the type of wood you like the best, you can settle on the design and style that you both like. The style may contrast or blend with the other furniture in the room, and variety in colors is not usually a problem in kids’ rooms. Chests are sometimes elegant in their style, which will work well for older children. They will enjoy having an attractive piece that they can also use for handy storage of clothes and other personal items. 

When you select childrens chest furniture, you’ll be adding a practical furnishing to your children’s room. Almost anything can be stored in chests of drawers, even though they are traditionally used for clothing. If you buy a short chest, you can use it as a TV stand, as well.

The size of the drawers in the chests you look at will help you in deciding whether each piece would give your children enough room to store things, out of the way. Measure the place that you have allocated for the chest, to be sure that it will have plenty of room to fit in. You’ll also want to leave enough room to easily open and close the drawers, which your children will be doing quite often. If you place a chest near their room door, make sure the drawers will still open easily.  

When you choose a chest for your children’s room, select one that will be practical, as well as good-looking. How wide should the drawers be, and how many drawers will be enough? Extra room is almost always used, so don’t be afraid to select a piece that is a bit wider than you and your young ones may think they need, as long as there is plenty of space in the room.

Your children will be using their chest of drawers every day, so select a furnishing that will be sturdy enough to stand up to use and abuse. Their new childrens chest furniture may also be a focal point of their bedroom, and they will probably use it more than anything else, other than the bed.
